The color of this airy shirt isn’t neutral, but it seems to go with everything. We paired it with denim shorts (Hosna), white shorts (Marwa) and a tiered black skirt (Tina). While it isn’t hard to match t-shirts with any piece of clothing, we wanted to show this shirt off because it is one of the items we all find ourselves reaching for time and time again. It’s so easy to wear, and it can be tucked into pieces easily. We’d also wear it with the perfect jeans and a leather jacket.

These pants are so comfortable that it’s hard to believe they are “on trend” right now with all the major designers. From boots to heels to flip-flops, you can wear the pants with anything, although we all avoided sneakers because that would be a little too straight-from-the-gym. They’d also look good with a sequined shirt or a  boyfriend shirt, although we’d stay away from anything too baggy  so as to not look sloppy.

We all paired these vintage pants with loose shirts; whether tucked in or flowing over, a bigger shirt compliments the bohemian feel of the pants. The pants looked better with heels, so we paired them with wedges or clogs. We’d wear this shirt and these studded clogs with the pants as well.

We get our hair done at various salons from San Diego to Los Angeles, but Tina wanted to highlight her favorite, Jet Rhys Salon. With locations in downtown San Diego and Solana Beach, the salon excels at creating the kind of graduated layers and sleek look that we all wish we had daily. Jet Rhys salons were created by former Vidal Sassoon specialists, who came to San Diego from New York ten years ago, and they’ve definitely maintained that NY sensibility. The salon has been featured in every magazine from Harper’s Bazaar to InStyle, and it more then lives up to the reviews.

 

After Tina’s last visit, she was raving for days about the L’oreal hair mask she received. Not only did it make her hair ridiculously soft, but it also smelled like she’d shampooed with YSL’s Parisiene perfume. For someone who never leaves a hair salon happy (seriously), she was ecstatic to have left a salon getting exactly what she had asked for: Long layers, a subtle trim, and face-framing pieces.

 

If you’re in Southern CA, try the salon out, especially if you’re looking for beachy highlights or a swingy trim. You won’t regret it.

The silk paneling on this cardigan dresses up any outfit, so we all paired it with more basic bottoms. While you can’t exactly call Hosna’s tutu skirt ”simple,” its neutral color and light material made it the perfect match for the sweater. Marwa went hippy with studded flats and a headpiece, and Tina wore her current favorites, the relaxed trouser. (We’re all in love with this pant silhouette, because the cut is so comfortable and it makes any top look more polished.) We’d also pair the cardigan, buttoned up, with jeans and this antique-looking necklace.

Fall 2009

Designer Jason Wu sends perfectly executed evening gowns and the most ladylike sportswear down the runway each season. In fact, he rose to fame with his inauguration gown for First Lady Michelle Obama, so he clearly knows how to keep it sophisticated. We were thrilled to hear that Wu will be presenting his Spring 2011 collection to Nordstrom Fashion Valley customers in a few weeks. We’re most excited to meet Miss Wu: (From the press release) Jason introduced a whimsical new icon this season in the form of a tiny, wide-eye owl named Miss Wu. One of his favorite animals, the owl provides a playful accent on RTW, handbags, shoes and sunglasses while calling out a familiar chant “Wu…Wuuu”. .

This vintage black shirt is made of silk and perfect for even the hottest of days. Due to weather constraints, aka the ridiculous heat wave CA has been experiencing, we all paired the shirt with skirts. Marwa’s schoolgirl take involved a pleated skirt and snakeskin clogs, Tina went for neon colors and leopard print, and Hosna kept her look athletic with sneakers and a sweatshirt-material skirt. In cooler weather, we’d pair the shirt with slightly destroyed denim skinnies from ASOS, the UK retail giant that Americans can finally order online from! Seriously, this store has everything at any price point- how cute are these lace-up leather wedges and these heart suspender tights?
